Our Month Back East…

Well, maybe not a full month—but we were back east  from August 9-21.  It was a long trip but we managed to get five tickets on frequent flyer miles so that’s when we went.  For the first time, we broke the trip up and it seemed to work really well.

We spent Thursday through Sunday morning in Carlisle, PA visiting my Aunt Susie and Uncle Chris.   They hosted a weekend at their house and we were so happy to have all of my aunts, uncles, cousins, and my grandfather come from all over (PA, NJ, MD, etc) to see us.  It was truly amazing to know that my family made it a priority to come and visit.  It was awesome!  Aunt Susie took care of everything—coordinating meals, sleeping arrangements, etc.  The first morning the boys woke up at 6:30am and we were exhausted.  I begrudgingly came downstairs and was half-awake when I came down the stairs.  Aunt Susie came down the stairs in her robe like it was a superhero cape—she just said “go back to bed and I’ll handle them.”  In that moment, I decided she was a Saint.  I came down two hours later feeling rested to find them already fed and watching a movie/coloring!  What a great start to my vacation!  Several family members came to visit on Friday and we had a great lunch and dinner together.  Saturday was another party—my uncle Dan designed an entire carnival in the front yard for the kids and adults!  It was so creative—he had Penny Pitch, beanbag toss, etc.  The boys were in heaven!  It was a wonderful family reunion and we all had such a great time.

Sunday morning we woke up and said our goodbyes.  We drove to Spring City, PA to visit one of my closest friends from college and her family.  We’ve been lucky enough to be able to see Jessica, Chad, and their two kids Kenny and Sarina every year for the past 5 trips back east.  Our kids are the same age and get along really well.  It was so great to let them go play for a few hours while the adults actually got to carry on an adult conversation!  We had a nice dinner outside on their deck and then got the kids bathed and to bed.   We got to chat over drinks that night.  We took the kids to the pool the next day and let them run around before we took off again to visit Gyasi’s Nana and Aunt Sharon in Atlantic City.

We saw them for a few hours and Nana asked me to cut her nails—I gave her a quick manicure (minus the polish) and it was really wonderful to spend time with them.
Tuesday we spent in New Jersey with our friend Carrie and her two daughters, Sarah and Allison, at the Camden Aquarium.  We took the train and the boys thought that was really cool.

Wednesday we went to the beach and met up with Geoff, Kate, and Henry at Point Pleasant.  The water was a little rough but the boys enjoyed their time in the ocean and with the sand.  As we were showering to head up to the boardwalk to grab some pizza for lunch it started pouring down rain.  Our intentions for the afternoon on the boardwalk were altered slightly but we still managed to grab some ice cream and boardwalk fries!  That night we got home and the power was out so we went with Grandma G and Grandpop Bumblebee to Perkin’s.

Thursday we went back to the shore with Carrie and her girls, this time heading to Seaside Heights.  The water was AWESOME!  Much calmer and the boys really loved it.  We did pizza and then hit the boardwalk for a ride on the ferris wheel , train, and roller coasters.  Amare loved it all but Adrian wasn’t a huge fan of the coaster because it kept throwing him against the side of the cart.  We spent that night at the Renaud house and got to see MamaNo, PapaNo, Heather, Danny, Andre, and Tymaree.  I love them and it was so great to get to hang out with them!

Friday visited Pop Pop (Kevin—Gyasi’s dad) in Trenton before heading down to Baltimore to see the Maryland Quinces.  The kids got along fabulously with their cousins!  Lots of playing, movies, and bike riding!  On Saturday we had a BBQ and family came from Philly and Baltimore to spend the day hanging out.  The food was great, the drinks were flowing, and we even had fireworks!

We came back Sunday night and then spent Monday packing and getting ready to fly out Monday night.  We arrived back at our house on Monday night around 10pm.  Great trip!
