We made a trip to Colorado in July to visit the Shade crew
and go to our friend Kelly’s wedding.
Mike and Sarah caravanned with us and it was so helpful and fun to have
them come with us! We left at 2:30am on
Friday morning, July 13th and loaded the boys into the car. They slept soundly until we stopped for
breakfast at Denny’s in Amarillo around 7am. Got back on the road and made it to Nowhere, Colorado for lunch at
McDonald’s—thank goodness for the Playplace where the boys could run off some
energy! The boys watched movies in the
van and ate all kinds of fun snacks (cookies, pretzels, goldfish, candy, etc)
to keep them entertained. Just when we
felt like the car was about to explode with whining and crankiness, we pulled
up to my brother Eric’s house in Wellington, Colorado. It was so great to see them! The boys ran around the backyard with their
cousins Colby (11) and Tyson (7), we got to get our first peek at our new niece
Kaylee Jane, we could relax with a few beers over pizza with my brothers and
sister in law Sarah. It was one of my
favorite nights of the trip!
Saturday we hung out and went to Kelly’s wedding
reception. It was a lot of fun
celebrating with her, meeting her new husband, and hanging out with Mike &
Sarah. While we were gone, my family
took the boys to Tyson’s t-ball game and then to McDonald’s where they
proceeded to play for two hours.
Sunday we traveled to Denver for Colby’s state baseball
tournament. We were able to see three
games and the boys actually did pretty well sitting and watching (they also had
a playground at the field so that helped).
We cheered the Huskies on to the championship game where they fought
hard but lost a heartbreaker. They won
state runner up, which is a huge accomplishment! Dinner at Red Robin on the way home and lots
of high fives all the way around.
Monday was chill day.
Gyasi had to go see one of the women on his team at work so he left
during the morning and Brian, Eric, Sarah, and I took the boys to Chuck E
Cheese in the middle of the day—it was empty and totally awesome. Normally, I HATE Chuck but this one in Fort
Collins, CO was clean and empty. It was
wonderful! We grilled out that night and
relaxed.
Tuesday we went to the Denver Zoo with everyone. The boys had a blast—they saw all of the
animals and rode the train. It was a
long day and everyone came home exhausted.
Wednesday we got up and went to the Farm at Lee Martinez Park. It was a small working farm where the kids
could see pigs, cows, sheep, and horses.
They enjoyed pumping the water out of the old fashioned water pump.
Amare managed to soak himself (of
course).
We headed to downtown Fort
Collins for lunch and met up with my Dad and Patti. After that, Gyasi and my brothers took the
boys fishing at a nearby pond.
They had
a blast—but so did I! My dad, Patti,
Sarah, Mike, and Sarah stayed downtown and toured two breweries (New Belgium
and O’Dells), sampling beer all afternoon.
It.was.awesome!
We all met up for
dinner at a Mexican restaurant and chowed down.
We got back up at 2am and hit the road to come home. It was a great trip and amazing to get to see
the boys interact with the family—they adore their older cousins and doted on
their younger cousin Kaylee. All in all,
we made a lot of amazing memories.
