Hi everyone, Gyasi and I made a quick trip home to get some new clothes and shower. We will head back to the hospital this afternoon. Amare had a pretty good night last night. We had a chance to talk with his bedside nurse and the head nurse of the NICU at our 8pm "touch time." They were so wonderful and really reassured us that he's doing pretty well. They said that this is something they see a lot in the NICU (babies who aspirate fluid in their lungs) and that while these are some of the sickest babies when the come in, they are "fun" to watch because they get stabilized and then turn the corner and quickly improve and head home. Boy were we glad to hear that! They said Amare is really stable and had a great day on yesterday--that he's doing as well or better than they could expect. So we breathed a sigh of relief and now know that we need to be patient and give him time to "turn the corner."
Of course, when we saw him at 8am this morning, I still cried when I leave the NICU. It's so hard to see your baby there fighting to get better. You really have to resist all of your maternal urges to just scoop him up and hug and kiss him. All of the post-pardum hormones don't help this either. He's sedated right now so that his body can really work on recovery but I swear when he opens his eyes they will follow to find the source of his mom and dad's voice. He grips our fingers and is quite strong.
So we are hanging in there. Stopping home to charge our batteries was a good decision. I'm planning on taking some more pictures of him later today and will post a few. He really is adorable, you guys! Maybe that's just his proud parents talking but we sure think he's adorable--so do his nurses!

Wow guys, he so beautiful and you're right, he is definitely a mix of the two of you but i sure see the gyasi quince eyes :). This blog is a great way to communicate with all of your adoring fans! I look forward to the updates and to eventually meeting your new little man!
